Since then, we've been hard at work to develop safe and effective probiotics for gout and other chronic conditions. Our approach to reprogramming our microbes has evolved over the years. We have arrived at a minimalist philosophy: we don't create 'Frankenbugs'. Instead, we use the genes nature put in the DNA of our bacteria.
All we change is the way the circuitry inside the bugs turns on the genes. The ability to biodegrade the toxins that cause chronic conditions like gout is usually turned 'off' in bacteria, as they don't need it. We've developed a unique approach to turning these genes 'on' under the conditions that probiotics encounter in the intestine.
We're proud of our minimalist approach to reprogramming bacteria. We believe we've found a way to maximize the benefits of probiotic bacteria with the absolute minimum of genetic engineering.

Head of Detoxification
As the Head of Detoxification, Michal focuses on the development of new strains. He attended Adam Mickiewicz University and Poznan University of Medical School where he earned a Masters and PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, respectively. He was a postdoc at Brown University, later becoming their Assistant Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.
